Funeral Planned For Highway Worker Richard Gonzalez
SAN DIEGO –Funeral arrangements have been set for state highway worker Richard Gonzalez, who died Monday morning after being struck by a car at the Interstate 15/State Route 94 interchange.
The funeral is planned for Wednesday, June 29, starting at 6 p.m. at the Glen Abbey Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Mr. Gonzalez joined the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in 2008 as an Equipment Operator II and was working as part of the Special Programs Crew. He is survived by his wife Ruth and two sons, Ron, 22, and Erick, 12.
Mr. Gonzalez is the third state highway worker killed in the line of duty since early May. Stephen Palmer Sr. died on May 4 in National City and Jaime Obeso passed on June 7 near El Centro, Imperial County. These were the first state highway fatalities in the region since 1995.
All three workers have memorial funds established for their families through the California Transportation Foundation (CTF). Individuals and corporations are encouraged to honor these fallen workers by sending their non-tax deductible contributions to:
