Caltrans Honors Fallen Maintenance Worker
Calls For Safer and Slower Driving Around The Cone Zone
Officials from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will host a news conference to honor the life of fallen Caltrans maintenance worker, Jaime Obeso, and to call for safer and slower driving around highway work zones. Mr. Obeso is the second Caltrans worker killed in the line of duty this year. Both workers were from Caltrans’ District 11 (Imperial and San Diego counties).

Mr. Jaime Obeso, a Caltrans maintenance leadworker was killed in the line of duty on June 7. To help raise awareness about highway worker safety, officials will urge motorists to “Slow for the Cone Zone,” discuss enforcement around highway work zones, and highlight the outreach efforts geared towards the responsibility of motorists when they get behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Specialty safety vehicles will be on display.
