Accident Closes Northbound Interstate 15 at Interstate 8
SAN DIEGO – Motorists are being asked to avoid Interstate 15 in the vicinity of the interchange with Interstate 8 this afternoon, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The California Highway Patrol reported that a big rig truck was traveling southbound on I-15 at about 1:30 p.m. when it jack-knifed, spilling its load of gravel and hitting the center concrete median. The incident has closed northbound I-15 at I-8. This northbound traffic is being diverted to westbound and eastbound I-8. Traffic on southbound I-15 has been closed down to two lanes as crews cleanup the scene.
"Traffic delays are expected, so we encourage motorists to avoid the area if at all possible," said Caltrans Spokesman Edward Cartagena. "We need to clear the area and make it safe once again before we open it up to traffic. We have no time estimate at this point."
