Weekend Closure and Traffic Change for Interstate 15 Express Lanes
SAN DIEGO –A portion of the Interstate 15 Express Lanes will be closed Friday night, while traffic on a segment of the lanes further south will be switched to the southbound direction, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The I-15 Express Lanes will be closed Friday in both directions from Rancho Bernardo Road south to State Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway starting at 7 p.m. At the same time, traffic will be switched to the southbound direction only on the lanes from SR-56/Ted Williams Parkway south to State Route 163. The northbound on-ramp to the Express Lanes from the Sabre Springs Direct Access Ramp will also be closed.
This action is needed so construction crews can restripe the lanes in preparation for opening a new portion of the Express Lanes from Rancho Bernardo Road to Centre City Parkway on Monday.
This opening marks the completion of eight miles of new Express Lanes, stretching from SR-56 to Centre City Parkway. When the north and south segments are completed in 2012, the Express Lanes will span 20 miles from SR-163 in San Diego to SR-78 in Escondido. The Express Lanes are free for carpools, vanpools, buses and motorcycles. Single drivers can access the Express Lanes using the FasTrak toll system.
