Contract Awarded for Interstate 8 Widening Project
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced today that Sim J. Harris Inc. of San Diego was the successful low-bidder at $8.3 million and has been awarded the contract for the Interstate 8 Widening Project in El Cajon.
Contract work is expected to begin early next year and includes extending the eastbound left lane and upgrading the left shoulder between Second Street and Greenfield Drive, widening the bridges at East Main Street and Broadway and removal of the Grape Street pedestrian bridge.
The cost for construction is funded through the State Highway Operations and Protection Plan. The plan funds projects that maintain and preserve the investment in the California State Highway System.
