State Route 78 in Escondido Closed Due to Water Main Break
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has closed State Route 78 (E. Washington Avenue) at Ash Street because the road was damaged during a water main break earlier this afternoon. The road is closed in both directions and will not re-open until sometime Thursday morning.
The pipe was broken by a contractor in the area that was not on Caltrans Right-of-Way but was permitted to do the work. The contractor has hired a paving company to repair the roadway and Caltrans inspectors will be on site to insure the repair work is done to state standards.
At this time Escondido Police are handling the closure and are detouring motorists around this work. However, motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through this area and should anticipate delays
