Detour Needed for State Route 52 Extension

SAN DIEGO –Motorists traveling westbound on Mission Gorge Road to southbound State Route 125 (SR-125) will be detoured into a single lane for a short distance according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Southbound traffic will be directed across the median and back onto the southbound ramp.  The detour will go into effect Tuesday morning at 5 and will be in place for approximately 16 weeks.

“We need this short stretch of the on-ramp to begin construction of the columns for the new bridges being constructed for the SR-52 extension,” said Caltrans Senior Resident Engineer Ed FitzGibbon.

The work is part of the first phase of the $255 million project that will extend SR-52 from where is currently ends at SR-125, to SR-67 in Santee.  Work on the project began last month and is expected to be complete in late 2010.
