District Statement Regarding Recent Adopt-A-Highway Permit
SAN DIEGO –California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has issued the following statement regarding the Adopt-A-Highway Litter Removal Program permit granted to the San Diego Minutemen on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton.
“The Adopt-A-Highway Program is open to all qualifying individuals, businesses and organizations that are willing to assist the Department in keeping California's highways clean,” said Caltrans Director of Public Information Steve Saville.
“State highways are generally eligible for this program. In this instance, the San Diego Minutemen applied to the program. The group’s name, and only the group's name, will be allowed on the specified signs to reflect its participation in the program. The Department does not advocate, or otherwise promote, the agenda of any particular group.
Like any other permit, if the activities related to the permit become incompatible with safe and efficient operations of the freeway, the permit will be reviewed.”
The permit was issued last Nov. 21, and the highway signs installed beginning in late December.
