Apparent Low Bid for State Route 52 Widening Project
SAN DIEGO –The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will soon begin construction to extend the auxiliary lane on westbound State Route 52 (SR -52) from Santos Road to Interstate 15 (I-15) and from eastbound SR-52 from I-15 to Mast Boulevard.
Hazard Construction Company of San Diego submitted the apparent low bid of $17.8 million. If the bid is accepted by Caltrans, the year long construction will begin this spring.
The project will provide the last length of the westbound SR-52 widening to I-15 constructed last year, completing congestion relief for the morning commute. Afternoon commuters traveling eastbound will enjoy an additional lane at the project’s completion in early 2009.
The design also calls for construction of a new two-way bike path along westbound SR-52 from Santos Road to Mast Boulevard, replacing the existing bike paths on both sides of the highway.
