Portions of State Route 76 and SR-78 Closed this Weekend
SAN DIEGO –As the first storms of the year approach, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is anticipating closing various portions of State Route 76 (SR-76) and SR-78 over the weekend. The closures may start as early as tonight at 10 through Monday morning in anticipation of possible flooded roadways in these areas damaged by the fall wildfires.
SR-76 may be closed from Lake Henshaw Resort to Valley Center Road. Residents only will be permitted to travel with escort from Lake Henshaw Resort as far as Harolds Road. SR-78 will be closed at Weekend Villa Road; only residents with valid identification will be allowed through the closure.
In addition, work is also planned on SR-78 near Horizon View Drive. Crews will make every effort to allow motorists through the work zones as safely and quickly as possible. Other motorists on SR-78 will be detoured southbound on SR-67 to eastbound on Poway Road to Interstate 15. There is no detour for the closure on SR-76.
“Depending on the amount of rain, these roads may remain closed through early next week as crews remove debris from the roadway,” said Caltrans spokesman Ed Cartagena.
Caltrans advises motorists to plan ahead and drive with caution during the upcoming storm.
