Emergency Closure on State Route 78
SAN DIEGO –For approximately 30 days motorists can expect brief delays on State Route 78 (SR-78) in Ramona due to an emergency lane closure about a half-mile west of Horizon View Drive to half-mile east of Horizon View Drive, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Beginning this weekend, crews will close one lane of traffic to replace damaged pipes that run near the roadway. Work is need on both the westbound and eastbound directions and one-way traffic control will be in effect 24-hours a day seven days a week until the work is complete. Motorists are advised that traffic delays in the area may be up to 15 minutes.
“The erosion of the pipes was noticed as we were preparing for the next series of storms,” said Caltrans District Director Pedro Orso-Delgado. “We want the road to remain safe during the heavy rains.”
Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution and avoid the area by using an alternate route, such as Bandy Canyon Road, to Highland Valley Road, to SR-67 northbound, to SR-78.
