Emergency Closure on I-5/Manchester Needed to Repair Roadway
SAN DIEGO – Motorists can expect delays during this afternoon’s commute due to emergency work to repair a portion of a lane on southbound Interstate 5 in the vicinity of Manchester Avenue, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Three of the four lanes will be open to traffic through this area, with a second lane being closed at 7 p.m. to help assist with repairs. The southbound onramp from Manchester Avenue will also be closed for the duration of the work. At that time workers will also close one lane on southbound I-5 at Via De La Valle.
“These closures are necessary to repair the roadway and have it reopened by Thursday morning’s commute,” said Caltrans spokesman Ed Cartagena. “We apologize for the inconvenience, but the public’s safety is our primary concern.”
Cartagena said a deterioration of the pavement in the area caused the need for immediate repairs.
