Work To Prevent Falling Rock
May Cause Traffic Delays This Friday On Rural SR-78

SAN DIEGO Motorists may get caught in traffic delays this Friday on portions of rural State Route 78 (SR-78) as highway workers install cable mesh along slopes to help prevent falling rocks, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

SR-78 will be intermittently closed Friday from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at Bandy Canyon Road.  The closures are expected to last up to 20 minutes as workers install the protective mesh along Crane’s Peak.

One-way traffic control will also be in place between Ramona and the San Diego Wild Animal Park as crews restripe the pavement.

Caltrans spokesman Hayden Manning said the work unfortunately cannot be done during the night and is needed to maintain a safe roadway.  He suggested motorists may want to allow extra time for travel on this day or consider using alternate routes if available for them.
