Traffic Switch Planned this Monday on State Route 54

SAN DIEGO Construction crews will shift traffic onto the newly-constructed lanes on eastbound State Route 54 (SR-54) between Briarwood Road and Jamacha Boulevard this Monday, Aug. 20, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

Changeable message signs are in place to alert motorists in advance of Briarwood Road.  Detour signs and crews will assist motorists in the transition to the new lanes.

The work is part of the construction that will connect SR-54 with the new State Route 125/South Bay Expressway.

“This switch moves the completion of the new six-lane freeway from SR-54 to Jamacha Boulevard and the interchange between SR-54 and the South Bay Expressway one step closer to the opening of the Expressway later this year,” said Caltrans District Director Pedro Orso-Delgado.

This Expressway is a public-private toll road project that will provide a new connection to State Route 905 and provide a third north to south corridor for area motorists.

Motorists are asked to drive alertly and to watch for highway workers as they proceed through the work area.
