New Lane on Interstate 15 Opening up Monday Morning in the Rancho Bernardo/Rancho Penasquitos Area
SAN DIEGO –Highway construction crews will have various closures in place this weekend in the vicinity of Interstate 15 and State Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway in part to prepare for the opening of an additional southbound lane on I-15 starting Monday morning.
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced workers will close two southbound lanes on I-15 between Camino Del Norte and SR-56/Ted Williams Parkway starting at midnight on Saturday and reopening Sunday at 9 a.m.
SR-56/Ted Williams Parkway will be completely closed to traffic between Sabre Springs Parkway and Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard starting Friday at 9 p.m. and reopening Monday at 5 a.m. The closure will also include the on-ramps from SR-56 to I-15 and the northbound I-15 off-ramp to Ted Williams Parkway.
The closure is necessary to complete striping on I-15 in order to open up an additional lane. The work will also include paving near the SR-56 bridge over I-15. Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists to use local surface streets in order to get around the closure.
Last week Caltrans opened an additional lane between Via Rancho Parkway and Rancho Bernardo Road, which has saved travelers an additional 10 + minutes on average during their commutes. In addition, the on- and off- ramps to West Bernardo/Pomerado Road were opened up five days earlier than planned.
Caltrans will make every effort to minimize disruption to the public during this closure. Call (866) 890-1397 for information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Project.
