Traffic Shift on Southbound I-15
Planned Between Camino Del Norte and Bernardo Center Drive

SAN DIEGO The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will shift traffic on southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) Tuesday, Dec. 12 to the right of the median.  The shift will begin at Camino del Norte and end at Bernardo Center Drive. This will allow adequate space for construction crews to work on retaining walls and pave new freeway lanes in the middle of the freeway.  This work will last for no more than three nights.

Lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 in the morning.  The southbound freeway lanes will only be reduced by two or more lanes during the process.  Motorists will not be detoured off the freeway.  This traffic shift will be in place until spring 2007.

Motorists will have access to five lanes of mixed-flow traffic – the same number as currently used at this location when this process is completed.  The actual shift will be virtually transparent to most motorists and it will not disrupt the flow of traffic.

This work is part of a $427 million effort to build the “Middle Segment” of the I-15 Managed Lanes freeway improvement project.  When completed and opened to traffic by late 2007 or early 2008, the freeway will feature state-of-the-art lanes in the roadway median, which will service carpools, vanpools and buses.  Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any disruption to the public during this closure.  For more information call the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline at (866) 890-1397.  Detailed information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Project is accessible at http://www.keepsandiegomoving.com.
