Interstate 15 Set for Closure To
Remove Falsework on Part of Carmel Mountain Bridge

SAN DIEGO All lanes of Interstate 15 (I-15) will be closed at the Carmel Mountain Road bridge Wednesday (11/29) from 11:30 p.m. until 4:30 a.m. Thursday (11/30) to adjust its falsework.  The closure process starts at 9 p.m. with all lanes fully closed by 11:30 p.m. The bridge is being rebuilt as part of the I-15 Managed Lanes Project.  This closure may be repeated on Sunday Dec. 3 if needed.

Both directions of the bridge that passes over Carmel Mountain Road will also be closed.  Detour signs will be posted to direct motorists around the closure.

Traffic was recently switched to the newly built lanes on the south side of the bridge.  Work continues on the entire middle portion of the bridge.  The new bridge is expected to be completely open to traffic by early 2007.

The following detours will be in effect:

  • Southbound and northbound motorists will be taken off I-15 at the Carmel Mountain Road off-ramp and immediately routed to the corresponding on-ramp.  There is no detour onto local streets for motorists using the freeway.
  • Motorists who normally use the Carmel Mountain Road bridge will be directed to Ted Williams Parkway/State Route 56 to access I-15.

“This work will most likely result in some noise to neighboring residents,” said Abu-Bakr Al-Jafri.  “We will de everything we can to keep any disturbances to a minimum.   We also thank the public for their patience and understanding during the construction process.”

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any disruption to the public during this closure.  For information on this and other project closures, motorists may phone the
I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline at (866) 890-1397.
