Caltrans to Close Southbound W. Bernardo Road
Ramps
Along Interstate 15 for Freeway Construction
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the southbound West Bernardo Road on- and off-ramps along Interstate 15 (I-15) beginning Sept. 18 and ending on Sept. 26 from 6 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. each day except Sunday, Sept. 24. The closures will allow work crews to effect drainage work in the area of the ramps.
“We normally try to avoid daytime closures,” said Gustaf Silva, assistant Caltrans Resident Engineer, “but this was best time of day to complete this type of work. Our hope is that motorists will understand the complexity of making multi-million dollar improvements to this project.”
Silva said motorists will be able to easily drive around the closure aided by large detour signs. “We will have signs to alert drivers in advance of the ramp closures,” Silva said. “This always makes the process more manageable for both the motorists and workers alike.”
Work on the $1 billion I-15 Managed Lanes Project began in mid-2003. When completed in 2012, this project will feature a roadway within the middle of I-15 that will service carpools, multi-occupant vehicles and transit. Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.
Caltrans will make every effort to minimize disruption to the public during this closure. Call (866) 890-1397 for information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline.
