Caltrans to Close Southbound Interstate 15 Bike Lane

SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) bike lane beginning Sept. 5 through mid Dec. 2008. The closure will be between Centre City Parkway and Via Rancho Parkway.

Detour signs will be posted in advance of the closure to alert motorists and bicyclists of the changes on the freeway.

The detour will direct bicyclists to use South Centre City Parkway to Clarence Lane. From there, they will continue west on Clarence Lane to Felicita Road and turn left (south) on Felicita Road until they get to Via Rancho Parkway. They will then turn left (east) on Via Rancho Parkway and get back on to I-15.

This work is part of a $39 million effort to build a portion of the I-15 Managed Lanes freeway improvement project. When completed and opened to traffic by late December 2008, the freeway will feature state-of-the-art lanes in the roadway median that will service carpools, multi-occupant vehicles and transit. Single-occupant vehicles will also have access to the managed lanes for a fee.
