State Route 56 Set for Weekend Closure

SAN DIEGO All lanes of the eastbound State Route 56 (SR-56) are set for closure from Ranch Penasquitos Blvd. to Interstate 15 (I-15) beginning Friday (8/4) at 8 p.m. and will reopen by Sunday (8/6) at 10 a.m. or earlier. Also, the southbound on-ramps from both the eastbound and westbound SR-56 will be closed during the same time frame.

Motorists traveling eastbound on SR-56 will be directed to use Rancho Penasquitos Blvd. and go south to I-15.  Westbound motorists who want to go south on I-15 can take Sabre Springs Parkway south to Poway Road and go west on Poway Road to get on I-15.

This closure is called to allow work crews to make preparations for an upcoming traffic switch on SR-56. The switch will take traffic off of the existing lanes and move it to new lanes being built on the south side of the SR-56/Ted Williams Parkway Bridge over I-15.  The bridge is also being widened to accommodate the I-15 Managed Lanes that will service carpools and other High Occupancy Vehicles (HOVs) in the freeway median.

“We are continuing to make progress on this bridge and this is just part of that ongoing work,” said Abu-bakr Al-Jafri, Caltrans Resident Engineer for the project.  “Our hope is that the public will understand this small inconvenience to their commute.”

Caltrans will make every effort to minimize any disruption to the public during this closure.  Call (866) 890-1397 for information on the I-15 Managed Lanes Hotline.
