BIDDER'S INQUIRY FORMAT

Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Only when stated in the Special Provisions will contracts have posted INQUIRIES AND RESPONSES.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.
Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.

1	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Plan Sheet 2 of 10; TYPICAL CROSS SECTIONS X-1. I would appreciate any information you could provide as to the type and size of any material below the existing sub grade of the Escape ramp. We are required to lower the existing grade by 1' (305 mm). As-builts are available at our District Office in Old Town for the original construction of the escape ramp, including the cross sections at 100' intervals. The as-builts indicate that the removal on this current project of 305 mm below the previous grading plane will be within both native original ground and embankment placed in 1977 meeting the requirements of the Standard Specifications (dated 1977).
2	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=ITEM # 15 PEA GRAVEL, SECTION 10-1.22 PEA GRAVEL The size of the material spec'd for pea gravel is not available locally, is that the correct size? The size specified in Section 10-1.22 for 19 mm - 25 mm is the required size regardless of local availability.
3	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=TYPICAL SECTION X-1 (sheet 2 of 10) The typical section shows the recycled material replaced in the same location, and the entire depth to be pea gravel. Where is the new and where is the placement of the recycled? Per Section 10-1.22 PEA GRAVEL paragraph 3: Aggregate shall be spread and shaped by any means to obtain the desired cross section on top of re-sieved pea gravel after respreading the re-sieved pea gravel at the location as shown on plans.
