The responses may be considered along with all other information furnished to prospective bidders for the purpose of bidding on the project. The availability or use of information provided in the responses to bidder' inquiries is not to be construed in any way as a waiver of the provisions of Section 2-1.03 of the Standard Specifications or any other provision of the contract, the plans, Standard Specifications or Special Provisions, nor to excuse the contractor from full compliance with those contract requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.

BIDDER'S INQUIRY FORMAT

Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Only when stated in the Special Provisions will contracts have posted INQUIRIES AND RESPONSES.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.
Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.

1	Are the cross sections available? Cross sections will be available at our Old Town Office on 02/27/01.
2	How do we obtain full size plan sheets? Full size plans sheets are available from the Caltrans Office Engineer website at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/oe/project_ads_addenda/11/11-239004/plans/ They can be printed directly from the above listed site or downloaded for printing at any available reprographics company.
3	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Item #3 TEMPORARY CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE There is no construction detail sheet in the project plans. Bid it as you see using the TYPICAL ACCESS TO CONSTRUCTION AREA DETAIL including SECTION A-A as shown on Plan Sheet 95 TRAFFIC HANDLING PLAN TH-1.
4	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=SPECIAL PROVISION SECTION 10-1.40, PLAN SHEET 47 (C-1), Item #31: SINGLE THRIE BEAM BARRIER Plan details on C-1 include unusual post size and spacing for single thrie beam barrier at K-RAIL to K-RAIL locations. Standard Plans A78F and A78G are different. Due to the multiple bridge rail connections, we request a similar construction detail for K-RAIL to BRIDGE RAILS. For K-RAIL to BRIDGE RAIL connections use Standard Plan A78F or A78G for post size of 250 mm with a distance of 953 mm for the first and second post at the bridge rail side. Use CONSTRUCTION DETAIL C-1 (sheet 47 of the plans) for the post size of 250 mm with the first post at 667.5 and the second post at 953 mm. The remaining distance between the connections shall use Standard Plan A78A for a post size of 150 mm x 200 mm with post spacing at 1905 mm. All details apply accordingly.
5	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Plan Sheet 48 (C-2), Section A-A Section A-A calls for scuppers at 3.0 m while both the Plan and Elevation views show the scuppers at 3.76 m center to center. Please verify the intent to use the 3.76 m center to center spacing for the scuppers. The correct distance is 3.76 m center to center.
6	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Section 10-1.01 ORDER OF WORK, Item 10: REMOVE CABLE BARRIER Can cable barrier removal from Sta. 518+00 to 551+00 happen prior to temporary k-rail installation? No, per Section 10-1.01 ORDER OF WORK the cable barrier must remain in place until the completion of the installation of the k-rail.
7	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Section 10-1.38 CONCRETE BARRIER- paragraph 2 & 3 and Section 10-1.39 CONCRETE BARRIER (TYPE K)-paragraph 5 & 6 "The top and side surfaces of concrete barriers which face traffic shall be abrasive blasted to produce a generally uniform color and sandy texture with air and water bubbles in the concrete exposed. The top and both side surfaces shall be prepared and painted in accordance with the provisions in Sections 59, "Painting," and 91, "Paint," of the Standard Specifications and these special provisions. " Are both side surfaces and top to be prepped and painted or only the top and side toward traffic? It is only necessary to blast the top and traffic side, but it is required to paint the top and both sides: traffic and non-traffic side.
8	Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Section 10-2.02 PRUNE EXISTING PLANTS and plan sheet HP-32 PRUNING CROSS SECTION Is mowing an allowable method? Yes.
