Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on the day prior to the bid opening.

Question = Specification indicates that concrete in contact with earth is in a corrosive environment and must contain 675 lbs of cementitious material per cubic yard.  Is this required for minor concrete as well a structural concrete?

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Bid Item # 95; 90" Diameter CIDH piles, Contract plan sheets 441, 499, 532, 567, & 599, Details for 90" Piles


Question = The current arragement of reinforcing steel vertical bars, in all cases, does not allow for proper placement of the PVC inspection pipes. For 3" clearance on each side of the inspection tube, you must have at least 8 1/2" clear between the vertical reinforcing bars. In Section 'C-C' on plan sheet 441 you only have 5 5/8" clear and 6" clear on Section 'B-B' for balance of piles. The current design may lead to restricted concrete flow to the outside of the rebar cage and must be addressed. Will the current rebar design arrangement be changed to comply with the States own design criteria for PVC tube placement?

Question = 1- Details and dimensions for Item 190, Concrete Barrier Type 60GE MODIFIED, including 1 1/2" expansion paper(?) shown on the typical detail sheet C-19(57/610) and retaining wall details R-28(314/610) appear to be conflicting. Please clarify:-

a) Is expansion paper required or not?

b)Section B-B on R-28 lookspractically impossible to construct and a high maintanace problem. Will you provide a more durable and buildable section detail before the bid date?

c)Is drilled and bonded dowelling required or not? 2-Please provide Detail for Item 202, Type 60C Colored Concrete Barrier, as you have for Type 60E Colored Concrete Barrier, on C-26. 3-Please confirm that Type 60E barrier for Item 192 (Non Colored) is to be per Revised Standard Plan A76 C ( Sht 364/610) and not per C-26 (Sht 64/610)

2-Please provide Detail for Item 202, Type 60C Colored Concrete Barrier, as you have for Type 60E Colored Concrete Barrier, on C-26.
