Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.
Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on the day prior to the bid opening. However, to allow the Department reasonable time to review and respond, bidders are recommended to send in their inquiries at least four (4) working days prior to the bid opening.

Question= APC Spec calls out for spiral ribbed with polymeric sheet coating and polymerized assault invert. Is polymeric trenchcoat acceptable, polymeric sheeted with asphalt invert is no longer commercially available?

  • If the polymetric sheet coating and polymerized asphalt invert are not commercially available, use another APC allowable pipe shown on plan sheet DQ-1.

Q #1: Section 8-1.02 “State Furnished Materials” of the Special Provisions are not consistent to all the materials identified to be furnished under section 10-3 of the Special Provisions. Please clarify.

Q #2: Bid items 227 and 228 are identified as final pay items for conduit however there is no payment provision under Section 10-3.23 of the special provisions to clearly identify the scope of materials to be included in said pay item. Please clarify.

Q #4: Section 10-3.19 subsection “fiberglass communication conduit” provides specifications for “fiberglass conduit” and its conformance to the details shown on the plans. However there are no fiberglass details shown on the electrical
plans. Please clarify.

Q #5: Plan sheet 471 detail the installation of the communication conduit in the bridge. However, there are no corresponding electrical plan details for the installation to the material (i.e.: hanger rod, clamps and utility bracket) shown on the sheet. Please clarify the method of payment and specifications requirements for the mounting assembly since there is no language in the electrical.

Question= Current rebar desing does not meet current Caltrans desing standards for 5" x 5" window clearance between vertical #11 bars. As well as curretn desing stadnards for clearance of 3" between PVC inspection tube and vertical rebar. Cage needs to be redesigned before constrcution starts.

Q #1: Section 10-3.23 “Payment” of the Special Provisions indicates the payment of “interconnection conduit and cable” plan sheet or scope work to be paid under count station. However, there are no plans designated with such title and the
count station plans do not show such work. Is it in the traffic signals plan sheets? Please clarify.

Q #2: Sections 10-3.07 “Conduit” and Section 10-3.19 “Fiber Optic Communication Systems” have conflicting requirements and are not consistent with the plans. Please clarify the prevailing section for communication conduit work.

Q #3: Plan sheets notes between the permanent traffic signal work and the stage construction signal notes and work are not clear. Please confirm that stage work required to be performed may result in its ultimate use though it is not entirely
clear in the permanent work plans.
