Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= SS1-7, Detail 1 Recirculating Sand Filter Section / Recirculating Sand Filter System, Pg 105 "Risers"


Question= Drawing notes "Observation Wall, 12" PVC riser + cover." Special Provision Pg 105 3rd para Risers: ....shall be as shown on the plans, a minimum of 24" in nominal diameter. Please clarify 12" or 24" diameter.
 

  • The observation well shall be 12" diameter. The special provision for the risers has been revised. Please See Addendum No. 1 issued 04/12/2010.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= EE1-3, 4,& 6 Front view, Side View (no shade or cover) / Pg 123 of the Special Provision, Installation "Control Panel mounted at location shown on plans....." no mention of installing shade or kiosk or cover.


Question=Control panels should be shaded due to extreme heat in this location. Please require installation of some protection from direct sunlight. Our manufacturers made this recommendation to us.  

  • The special provisions have been changed to require a cooling system in the boxes that will house the control panels. See Addendum No. 1 issued 04/12/2010.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=SS1-7, Detail 5 Automatic Distributing Valve. / Pg 105 para 6 "Recirculating Sand Filtration System" of the Special Provision.


Question= Drawing notes insulation in lid, Special Provisions do not. No other lids are shown to be insulated. Please confirm insulation required.
 

  • The special provision for the distribution valve has been changed to specify an insulated cover. See Addendum No. 1 issued 04/12/2010.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item #23, Building Work, Contract Plan Sheet #43 (SS1-4), Spec.Provision Sect.12-2.06.(Resubmittal from 02Apr10).


Question= Plan indicates approximate longitudinal dimension of 15,000 gal. recirculation tank to be 44' and standard drawings by Containment Solutions and Xerxes indicate the same dimension to be 29' Please verify dimension requirement for this 10' diameter tank.  

  • Per Note 4 on Sheet 43 of 73 (SS1-4), "Lengths may vary by manufacturer." Please bid per the current contract bid documents.

Question= The Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Start-Up Manual and RWQCB Permit are listed as being available from the Engineer. When and where will these be made available?

  • These documents will be available from the Resident Engineer after the contract has been awarded. Please bid per the current contract bid documents.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= 12-11.01 EFFLUENT TURBINE DUPLEX FILTERED PUMP SYSTEM " 1. The float switch S-1.....float de-energizes pumps P1 and P2 in the westbound septic tank and both urine septic tanks."


Question= I see no provision in the design for interpanel communication. Radio signal or fiber optic cable is generally used. With highway between systems, fiber optic is recommended.


  • The Bid Opening Date is 04/29/2010 and it is unlikely an addendum will be issued.  The Contractor is to bid per the current contract bid documents.

Question= Can the Bid date please be extended one week to allow for
additonal time to get pricing on material from additonal subcontractors and suppliers. Since
no job walk was done, additional time is required to address all the construction aspects.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Bid Items, #8, 9 &10 and #23


Question= The access ramps East & Westbound are already closed. Will the
exisiting closure & traffic control measures be removed at the start of
this contract?.  Will the contractor have to provide replacement signs
for the duration of the construction(180 days)in both directions? Bid
Item #10 specifies only 1 Portable Message sign, is this the only one
required?
  • Attention is directed to Section 10-1.08, "Cooperation." Please bid per this contract's current documents.


Are any Plastic traffic Barrels included in the scope of work, since
there is no line items for them, but they are described in the plans &
specs. 
  • Attention is directed to Section 10-1.19, "Traffic Plastic Drums," and Section 10-1.20, "Temporary Crash Cushion Module." Both specifications cover work as may be required under "Public Safety" of the Standard Specifications.


Please confirm that the exisitng pipes under the Fwy are adequate and
will be used for the new construction without additonal sleeves being
required.  
  • No additional sleeves required. Please bid per this contract's current documents.
