Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Question=Question=1.) What is the thickness of the steel for the welded steel box for the sign post cavity?

  • Contractors Discretion, the welded steel box is a form that will be removed after concrete has set. It should be thick enough that it maintains it's shape during concrete placement.

2.)Can work days be extended to 120 days?  Manufacturer of precast concrete sign post base need 60 days to manufacture from time of approved shop drawings.

Question=#9.   Do you want us to reuse the existing post for the new holes? What kind of gravel backfill, type 2?  How deep is the gravel backfill?  The old hole, do we need to backfill and pave over it?

  • Question 9B: Gravel is for the very bottom of the new hole - not backfill.
  • Question 9C: 6 inches, per Sheet C-2.
  • Question 9D: Backfill with dirt from new hole.
  • Question 12:  No
  • Question 14:  There are two wedges per post - Both A and B.
