R:08/04/09

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=  Item No. 93 - SOUND WALL (MASONRY BLOCK) & 10-1.59 Sound Wall, 8th paragraph, page 174 of the special provisions.

Question=    On page 174 of the special provisions, "Sound Wall", 8th paragraph down the specs call out that the masonry color and texture will be based on a referee sample at the District 11 office. On previous Caltrans Dist. 11 sound wall projects there was never a sample available at the main office. Just a reference to match a particular color and block type from RCP Block, Inc. Darker colors are often more expensive, please clearly state what color Caltrans is exactly looking for. Thank you. On page 167 of the project plans, the SOUND WALL DETAILS call out for the .203M (8") CMU to have a split-face texture. Is this texture to be used on both the freeway and residential sides, in other words a split-face two sides block? Please clarify.

  • Color is mission and split-face both sides.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=ITEM 135 CONCRETE BARRIER TYPE K, SECTION 10-1.83 OF SPECIALS, PLAN SEHHT 26

Question=IN SECTION 10-1.83 OF THE SPECIALS IT STATES PAYMENT FOR K-RAIL INCLUDES PINNING AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS. ON SHEET 26 OF THE PLANS IT SHOWS A SECTION OF K-RAIL WITH PINS IN THE SLOTS WITHOUT A DESCRIPTION OF WHERE ON THE PLANS THIS SECTION APPLIES. ON THE LAYOUT SHEETS L-1 THRU L-6 NONE OF THE CB RUNS CALL FOR PINNING. IS ANY OF THE K-RAIL SHOWN IN THE PLANS TO BE PIINNED? IF SO, PLEASE DESCRIBE THE LOCATIONS.

  • Note 7 on sheet number 6 (L-1) limits the pinning to the 4 sticks of Krail at the begin and end of each K-rail run. It only applys to the concrete barrier Type K shown on the layout sheets. The layouts also show the begin and end limits of each K-rail run.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=  Item #60, PRUNE EXISTING PLANTS. Section 10-2.01 of the Specials makes several references information "shown on the plans".  I do not find any information on the plans regarding this issue.

Question= Which plants?  What kind of plants? Where are they?  What size reduction? Prune one side or both sides? Is the payment per linear meter for one side or both sides?

  • Sheet number 26 (C-12) shows how to trim the oleanders and the station limits are shown under the typical.

  Q:09/14/09
R:09/14/09

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=  ITEM #4, TEMPORARY BUS STOP.  Section 10-1.32 of the Specials states "shown on the plans" I find no reference to a temporary bus stop shown on the plans.

Question= What is a "TEMPORARY BUS STOP"?  What does it look like?  What are the construction details?  Where does it go?

  • The stationary bus stop is shown on SC-9. Per section 10-1.32 of the special provisions it is a State furnished sign installed "as a stationary mounted sign in conformance with the provisions in Section 12, "Construction Area Traffic Control Devices," of the Standard Specifications and these special provisions."
