Question= The pile data table on sheet 729 for the CIDH piles of the new Poway Rd. OC shows a significant difference on 4 of the piles between the "Design Tip Elevation" and the  "Specified Tip Elevation".  Please clarify which tip elevation is to be used for this bid item.

Question= Article B sets a linit of payment for Developing Water Item Code 170101 but there is no Bid Item for this.

Question= On Sheet Nos. 791 & 792 of the project plans, the plans show's "SH's" of 3.965M (10'-0") & 4.575M (12') which are divided equally to (15) & (18) courses of .203M (8") CMU. The "SH" is shown being measured from the bottom of the 736A barrier to the top of the 10"x4"x12 masonry cap. The problem is that the "SH" needs to be adjusted for these two heights either .101M (4") lower or higher. Otherwise an 8"x4"x16" will have to be added to the all to make up the difference in height. No information about a 8"x4"x16" is shown on the plans or whether Caltrans wants it placed at the the bottom or top of the wall. Does the Caltrans want to proceed with the use of an 8"x4"x16" unit? Or do they want full height .203M (8") units throughout the wall, except for the cap block?

Also, on Sheet No. 808 of the project plans, the "SOUNDWALL REINFORCEMENT TABLE", shows to use high stress CMU for "H"s over 4.369M. Does this mean the entire CMU wall, over 4.369M, is to be high stressed block? Or only a few courses of CMU. Please advise.

• The "SH" will be increased by 4" to make up the difference. All blocks should be 8" CMU.

Question= Per plan sheet 480 of the construction drawings there are two types of Retaining Walls required for RW 304L, Type1 and Type1 Mod. The Type 1 Mod requires Revised Standard Plans for B3-1, B0-3 and B3-8. There are no revisions for these sections within the plan set and/or on the CalTrans web site under the July 2004 Standard Plans. Please clarify which details are to be used for RW 304L, Type 1 Mod and where these revisions can be obtained.

• The correct call out is Type 1, please delete "MOD".

Question= Is it possible for the District to reissue these plan sheets (655-658) so that the details (bridge, retaining wall, concrete slab) are visible?

Question= On Sheets Nos. 809 & 810, the project plans show the aesthetic detail for masonry sound wall. Are all block, except the 254x101x406 precision cap block, split-one side or split-two side, does this include the pilaster as well?
Also, in the special provisions, on page 360, it calls out for single score unit, where in the aesthetic details is this shown?

In order to provide a competive bid for the project we  need this problem resolved.

  Sheet 809:  Pilaster Section A-A: The 406x203x406 pilaster block shall be split face two-sides.  The 406x101x406 pilaster cap block shall be split face two-sides.
  Sheet 810:  Soundwall Pilaster at Light Pole:  The 406x203x406 pilaster block shall be split face two-sides and one end.  The 406x101x406 pilaster cap block shall be split face two-sides and one-end.

Question= Plan sheet 432 of 839 calls for Rock Staining left the SD-15M Line from    Sta. 283+00 to 285+00.  Our takeoff of this area from the cross sections sheets shows approximately 5,000 m2, not the bid item quantity of 50,000 m2.  Are there additional areas of rock staining?  If so, we need to know so that we can evaluate the type of access to the work area.

Question= Please clarify the Traffic Control plans for stages 4C & 5A.  It appears as though there is no consideration of the traffic control required to install the (8) CIDH piles at the Poway Rd OC; specifically the (4) piles that make up Bent 3.
Please Clarify:
1.) Are there any lane closures for the I-15 planned; either for the SB, NB, or HOV?
2.)What is the maximum width of the planned work area for the installation of these piles?

Question= Bid Item 40 - (Remove Retaining Wall (Portion) has a pay quantity of 2200 M.  Portions of the walls are shown on the typical cross sections with a note which states, “Remove Retaining wall to 1 m below finish grade.   The contract documents do not contain any pertinent information regarding these walls such as the wall height (H) or bottom of footing elevations.   Without the information above, it is not feasible for the contractor to properly ascertain the actual quantity of retaining wall to be removed.  Please provide the above information or the walls as built drawings.

Question= Do the As Built Drawings mentioned in previous answers have plan sheets that provide more detail(dimensions,cross section etc)for the Pop-Ups so that an accurate estimate of cost and work can be completed for their removal?  

• The contractors are advised to visit the Map Files department located at the District 11 office and view the as-built plans to determine which as-builts will be useful for their bidding purposes. 

Question= Addendum 2 states that this project is a part of a pilot program for “Design Sequencing”.
In past Caltrans’s “ Design Sequencing “ projects, the Special Provisions specified the dates by which Caltrans was liable to deliver to the Contractor, the Completed Drawings that were not part of the bidding documents.
Without such information, it is difficult for the Bidders to adequately schedule the job. In absence of such information, the Bidders will be forced to assume that the Final Drawings will be made available to the Contractor when needed by the Contractor’s Schedule.
Please confirm our assumption or provide the bidders with the Final Drawings delivery schedule.

Question= Is it possible to extend the bid date based upon the current
Caltrans bid schedule and the holidays?

Question= Stage 4A drawing (sheet 343)
Question= Plan sheets 817 and 822 show the barrier slab for the soldier pile wall. The barrier slab is 3.6 m wide from the wall layout line.

Stage 4A drawing (sheet 343) shows a distance of 1.5 m to 2 m. from the wall layout line to the edge of the temporary K-Rail. Consequently, there would not be enough space to build the 3.6 m barrier slab.

Is it possible to close an additional lane of traffic to provide the space needed to build the barrier slab?

Question=The last paragraph of Section 10-1.16 states that Traffic Chart number 19 shall not be used until Contract numbers 11-080934 and 11-080944 are completed and opened to traffic.  When will these two projects be completed and opened to traffic?

• Scheduled date of completion and opened to traffic  is 11/10/2008.  This date does not include potential weather delays. 

Question= Are the core boxes from the exploratory drilling available for viewing and who is the contact person for scheduling an appointment?

• Please refer to Section 5-1.15 "PROJECT INFORMATION" of the Special Provisions.

Question= As I mentioned over the telephone, as I progressed through the lighting & sign illumination plans the designers started leaving run numbers out of the deltas.  Moreover, they left off any other reference to run numbers.  Since they combine sign lighting, CMS, CCTV and F.O. on the same plans it is difficult to determine their intent. Also the four traffic signal plans are missing from the electrical drawings. Please advise.

• Regarding  the Inquiry #22, the Lighting and Sign Illumination plans are preliminary plans. The final plans will be delivered to the contractor per Section 1.01 of the Special Provisions after the contract approval. Please see electrical special provisions under cost break-down from page 418 to 431. These pages shows the required quantities for bidding for the contract lump sum items for signal, lighting, and electrical systems.
  
  

Question= Is there a requirement to clean and paint the steel soldier piles?

paid for in Item 96 Asphalt Concrete (Type A) and provide thickness info for temporary paving.

Question= Current design spacing of #22 Hoops for CIDH Piles are @ 102mm. This tabulates to 4" O.C. spacing for the hoops (horizontal ties). Per the current Caltrans Bridge Design Details, this does not meet your minimum spacing of at least a 5" x 5" window for concrete flow.

Will the CIDH Pile cage be redesigned to meet current Caltrans design criteria?

If not, is Caltrans going to take FULL responsibilty for the GGL results when an annomaly appears from the restricted flow of concrete to the outisde of these rebar cages.

equivalent to the quantity on sheet 427, 479 tonnes.  What about all the other areas indicated as "Temporary Paving" on the Staging/Traffic Handling plans?
