Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.
Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Question= Please clrify the location of the concrete deadman:  Building Section A on Sheet ST2-1 indicates that the location is 21,950 mm from face of wall "BTM2" on grid line 6 to the centerline of the concrete deadman.  Section view A on Sheet ST5-3 indicates the distance is 16,500 mm from the centerline of wall "BTM2" on grid line 6 to the centerline of the concrete deadman.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Section  12-1.04 schedule of values of the says that bond premium and other such items will not be paid under the various building items and shall be inlcuded in the mobolization bid item for the entire project. The bid schedule does not include a bid item for mobolization. 

Question= Where shall the contractor include the cost for bond and other such items?

Question= DETAIL CALLS OUT "MOLDED TRIM".   IS THIS TRIM THE SAME AS WHAT THE SPECS SAY IS "TRIM BAND AT SPLIT FACE CONC. MASONRY:  MD 1079" ? ( AND NOT A PRECAST CONC./OR CMU PRODUCT)

D.IT APPEARS THAT THE CMU IS NOTCHED TO RECEIVE THIS, AND IT IS ALSO ANCHORED TO THE VERTICAL REBARS WITH SHEET METAL SCREWS BEING TIDED TO THEM . THIS SEEMS A BIT EXCESSIVE.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Section 12-14 Conveying Systems, 12-14.01 Bridge Crane and Hoist

Question= Part 1 General /  Summary /  Scope:
Calls for a Bottom Running or Underhung Crane. The drawings call for a Top Riding Crane. Please clarify the Top Riding Crane is correct. 

  • The bridge crane is a top running crane with an underhung hoist as shown in "(1) Section Detail - Crane"  on contract plan sheet 184 of 189.

Question= 1.  Spiral spacing of 115mm (4 1/2" o.c.) does not meet your current Clatrans design windows for rebar spacing of 5" x 5".  Please address and redesign.

2.  Clearance of 50mm (2") is not propoer ACI for concrete cast against a dirt face.  The clearance you show is for a formed surface as in a column.  This needs to be addressed and changed.
