Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Section 10-1.17 Asphalt Concrete Type HS

Question= Caltrans has been trying to allow more RAP in the asphalt mixes.  Will RAP be allowed in this mix and at what percentage can we expect to be the maximum rate?

Question= Why has the bituminous ratio tolerance been changed to +/-0.30%?  Is this a cost savings issue?  When Caltrans standard specs allow +/-0.50% and the QC/QA specs are +/-0.40%, why the drastic decrease in tolerance?

  • Specified tolerances in the contract are provided to assure higher stability asphalt products.

Question= INSTALLATION OF THE NEW END BLOCK FOR THE NEW MBGR REQUIRES REMOVAL OF THE EXISTING MBGR.  HOW DO WE PROTECT THE TRAFFIC FROM THE EXISTING BRIDGE ABUTMENT DURING CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW END BLOCK?
