Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item 28, Backflow Preventer Assembly, Plan Sheet 7, Spec 20-2.25.

Question=The plans show the relocation of an existing Backflow Assembly from adjacent to Olive Street to a location easterly and below the new retaining wall.  There is no Pay Item or details addressing the relocation or change in profile of the existing 6" waterline where the retaining wall will be constructed. Note 3 on Sheet 7 says "No connection shall be made between the water meter and the backflow."  No existing meter is visible in the area of the existing device. Please clarify the scope of work relating to the Backflow Assembly.

  • Item 28 is the pay item for the work to be done with the backflow assembly. Note number 2 on sheet four of twenty-nine states that "the new backflow assembly is to be located within the temporary construction easement as directed by the engineer". The water piping is to have 2 feet minimum of cover and it can go through the wall per standard drawing 3-9. Note 3 on Sheet 7 refers to not allowing a tee before the backflow assembly to made sure no water will backflow into the main water system. In accordance with section 10-1.28 BACKFLOW PREVENTER ASSEMBLIES of the Special Provisions, that the backflow assembly will be as approved by the Ramona Municipal Water District. The water district needs to be contacted to get approved installation and materials. The specifications also states that the backflow preventer shall be of the same size, flow and pressure as that of the removed backflow preventer unless otherwise requested by the Ramona Municipal Water District .

Plan Sheet / Specification Reference= Item # 37, Quantity 11M2, Furnish single sheet aluminum sign(1.6m un-framewd, PDQ-1, 10-1.36

Question= On plan sheet PDQ-1 under furnish single sheet aluminum it calls for 16 signs to be made. under pay Item #38 Roadside Sign, the installation of 5 signs is covered. What pay item pays for the installation of 3 strap and saddle type and 8 mast arm hangers type?
