Question= Plan sheet 569 calls out a cobblestone finish for the panels. Plan sheets 577- 579 detail a raised surface detail.

• The Architectural Treatment (Cobblestone Texture) under the Quantities heading on plan sheet 569 refers to the architectural treatment for the concrete barrier located on top of the MSE walls. Please see plan sheet 582 for the location of the Architectural Texture (stained cobblestone) at the concrete barrier.
• Raised areas of the MSE panels indicated on the plan sheets 577-579 are correctly shown and cobblestone texture is not to be used for these MSE panels. Please refer to Section 10-1.39 Earth Retaining Structures of the Special Provisions for architectural treatment of the MSE panels.

Question= The Forester creek contractor is stockpiling material on top of the existing embankment located in the 52 alignment, do the avaiable cross sections show this embankment and if not are you going to up the cross sections to reflect these changes.

• Yes, the Contractor working on the City of Santee’s Contract for improvements to Forester Creek has placed material within the State’s Right of Way between Stations 1256+20 to 1261+02. This material was placed and tested in accordance with Caltrans Section 19 of the Standard Specifications to a 90% Relative Compaction and no addition material will be placed after October 25, 2007. The revised quantities for the Roadway Excavation and Import Borrow Items in Addendum No. 1, dated October 25, 2007, reflect the change to the Original Ground between Stations 1256+20 to 1261+02 for bidding the items listed above. The revised Cross Sections are available for download from the link above dated 10/29/07 and supersede the cross sections between Stations 1256+20 to 1261+02 only. The contractor will be required to do no addition work other than that is already required to prepare Original Ground to accept embankment Material and clear and grubbing as determined by the Engineer. However, the material may be placed outside the line and grade of this Contract's Roadway prism and may generate localized areas of surplus material that should be considered when balancing dirt on this project.

The assemblies in question are 32-1, 32-4, 35-1, 43-2 and 43-4. Can you please provide detail for these assemblies. Also, On Sheet RR-12, in the bill of materials (Schedule) it shows assembly types 3, 6 and 7 however if you look at the details on the same sheet it only displays assembly type 34-1 & 34-2. Please provide detail for other assembly type.

Question= Serveral Memorandum refer to the geotechnical capacity of the CIDH piles based on Friction ONLY!  However, the bottom of the drilled holes is to be cleaned out, INPSECTED AND APPROVED by the engineer, prior to the placment of the drilled reinforcement cage and concrete.

How does the on-site engineer inspect a rock socket bottom and approved when the CIDH is under water?

• The Special Provisions, Section 10-1.53 "Piling", Subsection "Cast-In-Drilled-Hole Concrete Piles", states: "Cast-in-drilled-hole concrete piling (rock socket) shall consist of drilling or coring sockets in rock to the depths or lengths specified and filling with reinforced concrete in conformance with the details shown on the plans and these special provisions. Cored holes, if used, shall conform to the provisions of Section 49-4.03, "Drilled Holes," of the Standard Specifications."Section 49-4.03 "Drilled Holes,"of the Standard Specifications states:
  The bottom of the drilled hole shall be cleaned just before placing reinforcement or concrete to remove any loose sand, gravel, dirt, and drill cuttings. The field acceptance is subject to Section 5-1.01 "Authority of the Engineer" of the Standard Specifications. Question=Current traffic plans and lanes closures make it very difficult for public saftey and the construction of the 3.0M CIDH piles @ Mission Gorge Rd. UC & Rte. 52/125 Separation. The current amount of working lanes (room) makes it very restirctive for the Large drilling equipment that wil be needed to drill these rock sockets.

At a minimum, Can Traffic Chart #6 (Special Provisions Sheet 238) be applied during the drilling operations on Mission Gorge. Likewise, at SR125 can Traffic Charts 236 & 237 be apply during the CIDH drilling there.

• According to the "Soil and Rock Logging, Classification, and Presentation Manual" dated June 2007, page 70, Rock Hardness with a descriptor "Extremely Hard" used in the Log of Test Borings has the following criteria:

• We expect hard rock at the elevations listed in the Pile Data Table.  Any increases or decreases in the quantity of CIDH (Rock Socket) will be determined by the Engineer in the field.  Changes in quantities shall be in conformance with the Standard Specifications, Section 4-1.03B, "Increased or Decreased Quantities."
