Question=Per plans sheet C1, the widths of the repairs for bid items 25 and 26 are given; however, the depths are not.  What is the depth of the repair ? Without this information, the amount of polyester concrete may not be deternined,  and bid item is paid by M2.

• In accordance to Section 10-1.30 "SPALL REPAIR PROCEDURE Concrete Removal,"  of the Special Provisions (page 173). Outlines of rectangular areas, as marked by the Engineer, shall be cut with a diamond bladed saw to a minimum depth of 37.5 mm but not greater than one third the depth of the pavement.  Repair Longitudal Crack shall be as shown on "CONSTRUCTION DETAILS, C1" of the plans and as required in Section 10-1.31 " Repair Longitudal Crack," of the Special provisions. 

Question=1. If the critical path of the project runs through the rubberized ac item, how long will it take Caltrans to complete test 375, and will contract time be extended while waiting for the test results?

• Contractor is responsible for quality control and the State provides quality assurance. Please refer to section 6-3.02 "TESTING BY CONTRACTOR" of the 1999 Standard Specifications. 

Question= Will Caltrans provide compaction test results on the 95 % subgrade requirement for the widening within the same day of it's completion?

• Please refer to the response to question no. 2.

Question=1. Please provide the AC profile grades, per lane, both existing and proposed , so as to determine the milling depths that are required to meet the surface tolerance requirements. 

•  It is the Contractors responsibility to determine the amount of grinding required up to the maximum specified, to accomplish the specified tolerance under the straightedge specifications.

• No,  the existing surface does not meet the proposed surface requirements. That is the reason for the contract specifying a cold plane item, leveling courses and overlay. 

Question= In the 1st paragraph it says that the pccp and the underlyingctb are to be removed and replaced. But the rest of the section mentions only removing and replacing the pccp. Please clarify. 

• The project plans do not reflect any CTB in the structural sections of this project. 

Question=Per Plans Sheets X-1 and X-2, Typical cross section show that the contractor will  not do any work outside 1.5 meters on the median shoulder and no work outside 3.05 meters on the right shoulder (except for the widening sections @ Sta. 706+012.984 to Sta. 901+50.869) Is this correct?

• Typical cross sections  as well as Layouts (limits of pavement), constructions details, drainage sheets, and quantity sheets, etc.  should be considered in stablising limits of work. For example, turn pockets fall within the limits of the shoulder area.

Question=What is the method of attachment where the WB transition railing attaches to existing metal bridge railing ( 2 different Types)

• Please bid per the contract documents. 

Question=Ref previous Pre-Bid Inquiry # 7 and your response dated 7/01/05- This response is ambiguous, non-responsive and inappropriate. Suggest that the Department comply with your public contract requirement  to "provide complete accurate plans and specifications" by issuing details, specifications bid items and refrence stanard plans to define, to all bidders, what your scope and method of compensation is. The "... bid per contract documents." answer is unacceptable.
