Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

 Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Bonding, Notice to Contractors

Question=Our company is interested in bidding this project, however we are unable to procure bonds in excess of four (4) years and it is extremely difficult for any contractor to obtain a 5+ year bond.  .  Can the bonds for this project be broken up or can the contract time be shortened in order to allow us to bid this project?

Question=On the Federal Wage Rates Sheets posted on the caltrans website we
see no landscape labores, landscape tenders or other landscape trades, do we
bid using stanard State of California, San Digo County Prevailing Wage
rates, including tenders?
 

  • Page 2 of the Special Provisions states, "The Department will not accept lower State wage rates not specifically included in the Federal minimum wage determinations." Landscape Maintenance Worker, Landscape/Irrigation Tender, Entry Level Laborer, Landscape Irrigation Tradesman or Landscape Operating Engineer are not appropriate for this federally funded project. In accordance with the duties performed, workers can be classified as follows: Landscape/Irrigation Laborer, Operating Engineer Group 2 and above, Landscape/Irrigation Fitter, Laborer Group 2 (tree trimmer). When using apprentices for these classifications the proper ratio must be maintained.

Question: In location two, no irrigation exists at this time. will an irrigation system be installed before the indicated start date? Will we need to provide seperate bid numbers to install a system as "referenced" on these sheets? Will the system need to be completed within the eighty day build period? Since no plant material exist in this planting area, and since it is designated as stablish existing planting, will any additional plant materials, seed, or BMP's be called out or need to be included in the bid as described, presently?
