Caltrans District 11 Construction Department has developed this method of answering Bidder's Inquiries to better serve the needs of the Contractors who bid on our Projects. Caltrans District 11 Construction Department will post all of the questions submitted by any of the contractors that are registered Planholders for that Contract, but reserves the right to not answer any questions deemed unsatisfactory for public viewing.
The BIDDER'S INQUIRIES & RESPONSES will be updated continuously and all attempts will be made to do the final posting by 15:00 on Wednesday prior to the bid opening.

The main line N/B & S/B is constructed edge to edge with PCC, with no AC shoulders. Are the quantities shown for Details  25  and  27B to include the black shadow stripe? Is the width 100 mm? 

  • Yes, the quantities shown for Detail 25 and 27B were doubled to include the 2 coat black shadow stripe to be the same width of 100 mm.
  • An Addendum will be issued to address the quantity and measurement of Detail 25 and 27B when it includes a black shadow stripe.

For item number 89, which is a final pay item, there is no stationing to quantify the length in meters of the concrete barrier (type 732).  Could you please provide us with stations to verify the length of the concrete barrier. 

  • BB to EB off the General Plan  is 11.955 m long

    • From the Abutment Details, the wing wall starts at the joint or  0.15 meters in from BB and also from EB.
    From the Abutment Layout, the wing walls are 5.50 m long.

    For one side of a bridge:  11.955 -  0.15(2) + 5.5(2) = 22.655
    22.655 x 4 = 90.62

 Plan Sheet / Specification Reference=Item #49, Concrete Pavement, Special Provision Section 10-1.39 MATERIALS - Subsection CONCRETE 

On page 150 of the Specifications, "The concrete shall contain a minimum of 350 kg of portland cement per cubic meter."  Should this be 350 kg of cementitious material per cubic meter?

  • Correct, it should state cementitious material.

Paragraph 8 starts w/ Except for drainage units shown on the plans as RCP(class III  etc   .   .
Does this mean that the rubber gasket rcp class III does not need special mix design or the 70 mm of steel cover?
Please clarify.

  • Class III, rubber gasket RCP does not require the special mix design (concrete) or the 70 mm concrete cover over the bar reinforcing steel.
