Project Description: This project will construct a two-lane access controlled expressway on a new alignment from the north junction of State Routes 4 (SR-4) and SR-49 to a point of SR-4 approximately 0.6 miles east of Rolleri Bypass Road.
Purpose and Need: SR-4 and SR-49 are important Sierra Highways serving commuter and recreational traffic. SR-49 connects many of the historic Mother Lode Gold-Rush Era communities in the Sierra Foothills. SR-4 is an important trans-Sierra route connecting the Eastern Sierra Nevada, as well as several Sierra communities to the Central Valley and the rest of California. The two highways currently share a concurrent alignment through the heart of downtown Angels Camp, resulting in increasing congestion and travel delays. Reduced congestion through the heart of Angels Camp will enhance the livability of the community.
Construction Cost: $61.5 Million
Funding Status: The project was originally programmed for construction in Fiscal Year (FY) 2006-07. The project also obtained additional funding from Proposition 1B - The Transportation Bond for $4.43 million in construction cost. The project is funded jointly by Amador County, Alpine County and Calaveras County, known as the Tri-County Partnership, the Regional Transportation Improvement Plan (RTIP), the States Interregional Improvement Plan (ITIP) and Proposition 1B. |
