Richardson Grove Improvement Project - News
Public Scoping Meeting To Be Held
WHAT’S BEING PLANNED: The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is formally initiating the project development and environmental documentation process for operational improvements on Route 101 near Richardson Grove. The project area includes Route 101 from 1.1 to 2.2 miles north of the Mendocino County line. The intent of the project is to make minimal roadway improvements to allow Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) trucks and improve large, recreational vehicle access. Caltrans is proceeding with the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment for the project. Two public meetings have previously been held: in September 2007 near the Benbow Inn and in February 2008 in Eureka. Project review is ongoing; however, at this time it is not expected that this project will have unavoidable, substantial environmental impacts. The proposed project may have an effect on historic properties eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Caltrans is evaluating protection measures to be used to minimize impacts to the cultural resource site. Caltrans is seeking to provide the public with further opportunity to comment on the project prior to draft environmental document circulation.
WHERE YOU COME IN: The public is invited to attend an open house scoping meeting and review maps and other project information displays. Caltrans staff will be available to answer questions and receive comments or suggestions for consideration during the project development and environmental documentation process. There will be additional opportunities to attend future public meetings regarding this project. Comments will be received at the meeting, or if you are unable to attend, written comments may be submitted prior to June 10, 2008 to Caltrans, Attn: Kimberly Floyd, Project Manager, PO Box 3700, Eureka, CA, 95502.
WHEN AND WHERE: The public open house will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the River Lodge Conference Center, 1800 Riverwalk Drive, Fortuna. Project Information will also be available for review on the project webpage (www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/d1projects/richardson_grove/) or at Caltrans, 1656 Union Street, Eureka, by appointment only. Please contact Kimberly Floyd, the Project Manager, for an appointment at the number listed below.
