VENTURA FREEWAY (134) SOUNDWALL CONSTRUCTION
UPDATE #2

EASTBOUND AND WESTBOUND VENTURA FREEWAY (134) AND
NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND HOLLYWOOD FREEWAY (170)
IN BURBANK, TOLUCA LAKE AND NORTH HOLLYWOOD --
LANE, RAMP AND CONNECTOR CLOSURES FEBRUARY 10 THROUGH 13

As part of $6.8-million soundwall construction project to reduce noise generated by freeway traffic on the Ventura Freeway (134) in the Burbank, Toluca Lake and North Hollywood areas, the following closures will be in effect as follows:

- Daily between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, February 10 through Thursday,
February 13:

- The Vineland Avenue on-ramp to the northbound Hollywood Freeway (170)
- One lane of the westbound Ventura Freeway connector to the northbound
Hollywood Freeway (170)

- Overnight between the hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, February 10 through
Thursday, February 13:

- The Hollywood Way on-ramp to the westbound Ventura Freeway (134)
- The westbound Ventura Freeway (134) off-ramp to Cahuenga Boulevard
- One to two lanes of the westbound Ventura Freeway (134) from Hollywood Way to Lankershim Boulevard
- The westbound Ventura Freeway (134) connector to the northbound Hollywood Freeway (170)
- One lane of the northbound Hollywood Freeway (170) from the Ventura Freeway (134) connector to Tujunga Avenue
- The Vineland Avenue on-ramp to the northbound Hollywood Freeway (170)

In addition, freeway widening will take place on five undercrossings (Riverside Drive, Vineland Avenue, Cahuenga Boulevard, Ledge Avenue and Forman Avenue) in order to construct soundwalls on the bridges.

The contractor plans to work Monday through Friday -- during the daytime from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Some weekend work will also be necessary.

After construction of the soundwall is complete, landscaping will be performed, which will include the planting of various shrubs and plants along the soundwall project.

There may be certain unavoidable inconveniences during the construction period. Caltrans and the contractor are aware of concerns regarding nighttime noise during construction and will do everything possible to keep the noise to a minimum.

In addition, intermittent city street closures, mainly overnight (but will also include some daytime closures), will be necessary throughout the construction zone on the following city streets: Riverside Drive, Lankershim Boulevard, Cahuenga Boulevard, Vineland Avenue, Ledge Avenue and Forman Avenue.

Access to businesses and homes throughout the construction area will be maintained. When closures occur, signs and detours will be posted to assist motorists. Construction and closure dates are weather-permitting and subject to change. Estimated completion is spring, 2004.

Caltrans thanks the motoring public and residents of Burbank, Toluca Lake and North Hollywood for their patience and cooperation during this freeway improvement project. For additional information, please contact the Caltrans Public Affairs Office at (213) 897-3630 or (213) 897-3656.
