Deputy District Director of External Affairs
KIMBERLY ELLIS ERICKSON
District 7, which includes Los Angeles and Ventura counties, has the second largest workforce of the twelve Caltrans districts statewide. District 7 employs nearly 2,500 people with the largest workforce in construction and maintenance, and others in the Administration, Environmental, Design, Program/Project Management, Planning, External Affairs and Right of Way divisions. Since 2012, Kimberly Ellis Erickson has served as the Deputy District Director for District 7’s Division of External Affairs, responsible for leading the Public Information, Legislative Affairs, Graphics, and Equal Employment Opportunity offices.
Originally from Sacramento, Kimberly is a graduate of California State University Sacramento’s Business Administration program. Prior to working for the State of California, she worked in the private sector for the management consulting firm: Teamwork Training & Development as a member of their business development, marketing, and management training groups. As a speaker of Mandarin, Chinese, Kimberly also used her language skills in trade negotiations for private import/export firms. In May of 2000, Kimberly started her State career as a Right of Way Agent in the North Region. She promoted to regional management in 2006, with staff in the Eureka, Marysville, Redding, and Sacramento offices. She later served as Branch Chief of the Local Programs Oversight group, partnering with Local Public Agencies to deliver multi-modal transportation projects. Kimberly transferred to Headquarters in 2011, as a Statewide Liaison for the Division of Right of Way and Land Surveys, specializing in the Relocation Assistance Program. Throughout her State career, Kimberly has also been heavily involved in the implementation of Task Management and Strategic Planning efforts for the California Department of Transportation.
