2006 HOLIDAY TOY AND CANNED FOOD DRIVE
District 7 commits to helping those who are less fortunate this holiday season.
The Holiday Toy and Canned Food Drive will take place between December 1st through the 22nd. An official kick-off will be held in the Caltrans Plaza in the coming days during the lunch hour to remind employees to help others this season by donating a toy, canned food item or new winter clothes. For every donation dropped in the box during the lunch hour, the donor will receive a ticket to win a door prize.
“District 7 has committed its support to both the Union Rescue Mission and the Los Angeles Mission who provide year-round assistance to less fortunate children, teens and adults in the downtown Los Angeles area,” said Doug Failing, District 7 Director. “Our district has long been recognized for our commitment to safety and productivity, yet we have also prided ourselves in our ability to build partnerships with local communities and residents. Caltrans employees have shown their generosity in the past, and in continuing with the spirit of giving, I ask that you join me in making this year’s Toy and Canned Food Drive a success.”
A list of suggested items for infants, toddlers and elementary school aged children will be posted. This year, the Missions also have a special request for teenage-type items including: radios/CD players, outerwear, sports equipment, backpacks, purses, arts and craft kits and board games.
Two large boxes will be placed near the elevators in the lobbies of the district office building at 100 S. Main Street and at the Maintenance Field offices for collecting new, unwrapped toys, warm-weather clothing and canned food staples. The generous contributions from Caltrans staff will be placed in safekeeping each evening and will be delivered to the Missions in time for distribution to families this season.
