Caltrans was involved in the deployment of emergency relief supplies following a 7.2 earthquake in Mexicali, Mexico on April 4. Gerald Martinez and Antonio Duran from the Statewide Headquarters Equipment Office, the California Emergency Management Agency and staff from several districts assisted with the operation.
Caltrans’ role in the effort was to provide tractors and drivers to transport trailers loaded with supplies to Calexico, California, which is just over the border from Mexicali. Additionally, Caltrans facilities were used as staging locations. District 7 Equipment Manager Alfredo Villanueva and Equipment Operator Jesus Gomez volunteered their time and expertise to assist with the effort.
