It is with much sadness that Caltrans District 7 reports the loss of a great employee and friend with the recent death of William Ma, 32, an engineer with the Office of Design A.

Ma passed away from heart failure on Friday, December 26, 2008, at his home in Cerritos. He was working until late evening on Christmas Eve on a portion of the I-5 South Widening project, according to his supervisor, Nancy Pe, design manager, Office of Design A.

“The news of William’s death was a shock to everyone who knew him, especially his young family. A funeral service for Ma took place on Saturday, January 3, 2009,” says Pe. “He didn’t know a lot of people, but due to many very generous employees, we collected $2,900 in a very short time to forward to his family towards the cost of William’s funeral and to set up an educational fund for his daughter.”

Ma began working for the Department in May 2006.

“William had just completed a mandatory rotation program where engineers spend a few months in each Division to gain experience. He just returned to Design A last November,” says Bill Reagan, Deputy 7 District Director, Design.

Ma was a native of Hong Kong. He graduated from California State Polytechnic University, in Pomona, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ma is survived by his wife Tina, and his first child, a baby girl, Cailin, born in October, 2008.

If you would like to donate to the Ma family, please contact Nancy Pe at (213) 897-1888 and she will forward your donation to Mrs. Tina Ma.
