JAMES MCCARTHY IS NAMED DEPUTY
FOR PLANNING, PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AND LOCAL ASSISTANCE
McCarthy’s 28 years and breadth of experience are valuable assets to District 7.
District 7 welcomes James McCarthy as the new Deputy District Director for Planning, Public Transportation and Local Assistance. McCarthy’s areas of responsibility include representing Caltrans as liasion to the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), allocation of transit grants for transit and rail projects, air quality planning, community planning, goods movement and advance planning; as well as Local Assistance, Environmental Engineering and Project and Feasibility Planning for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
“With so many new responsibilities and 170 employees in this Division, I am ready to take on the challenges that come with the position. I look forward to new, emerging opportunities in transportation such as Congestion Pricing and Public/Private Partnerships."
Prior to his promotion, McCarthy served as Office Chief of Regional Planning since 1996. In total, he has over 28 years of experience with the Department and has served in various positions in both Los Angeles and Sacramento. Additionally, McCarthy serves on advisory committees for the Center for International Trade and Transportation at California State University, Long Beach and for the Sea Grant Program at the University of Southern California.
Clearly, McCarthy’s length and breadth of experience are valuable assets to the Executive Office. “It is great to be a part of the executive team and to be part of the tremendous transportation partnerships that have developed here in Southern California,” he added.
