Caltrans lost a great employee and friend with the recent death of Right of Way Regional Manager Terry Arias.

A Bellflower, California, native, Arias began working for the Department in 1977 as a Legal Secretary. In 1983, she became a Right of Way Agent, attending college at night until 1990, when she graduated with a degree in Business Administration. That same year, she jointed District 12 and was promoted to Senior Right of Way Agent. She became a Supervising Right of Way Agent in 1997 and in 2001 accepted a position as a CEA: Regional Manager Right of Way, Southern Right of Way Region.

Arias is survived by her husband, Vince Arias, sons Vincent and Gabriel Arias, mother and father Hector and Jennie Cota, five brothers, one sister and 32 nieces and nephews.

Jennie Garcia, Arias? sister, also works for Caltrans, in District 12. ?Terry was hard working, caring, loyal and enjoyed life, living it to the fullest,? she said. ?She touched many lives and preached how important receiving an education was. She felt that if you wanted something badly enough, anything was possible, never once believing in failure. We were all very proud of her and all her accomplishments. She is an inspiration to me and my family and she always will be.?

We, her Caltrans family, feel the same way.

A memorial fund has been established through the California Transportation Foundation.  Employees wishing to contribute to the fund should make checks payable to the: CTF Memorial Fund and designate ARIAS in the lower portion of the check.
