REACH FOR THE STARS -- AND FOR YOUR PLEDGE FORM
by  Maria Raptis
Issue Date: 11/2007

There is still time to make a pledge. To date, $626,238 has been raised for the California State Employees Charitable Contribution Campaign.

As of November 2, Caltrans statewide has raised $626,238 for the 50th Anniversary of the California State Employees Charitable Campaign (CSECC) Golden Star Challenge. With this year’s theme of “Reaching for the Stars,” Governor Schwarzenegger asked Caltrans to set a goal this year to raise $1 million. Statistics show that to date District 7 has pledged $39,825.25; a figure that reflects 322 donors, including 81 new donors.

“Let’s consider it done!,” says District 7 Chief Deputy, Raja Mitwasi. “Your donations help hundreds of worthy organizations administer assistance to thousands of people in need. The CSECC makes it easy to give by deducting donations directly from payroll checks. If you have not yet signed up for this wonderful program, I encourage you to do so now. The devastation created by the fires in southern California brings home the fact that any one of us could need help at any time.”

The CSECC donation campaign officially ended on October 31. But because District 7 has been affected by the fires, additional time will be given to turn in forms, no later than Tuesday, November 13. The codes to donate to the regional fire efforts are: Southern California Wildfire Recovery Fund (Code: SCWFRF) and for the San Diego County 2007 Fire Fund (Code: SD07FF).

A rally will be held on Tuesday, November 6 at 10 a.m. at the District Office Plaza to boost District 7's CSECC Campaign commitment.   Information will be available on many charitable organizations and the services they provide.  All employees are invited to attend.  Refreshments and music will be provided.

Director Will Kempton is confident of the Caltrans potential saying, “Our million-dollar goal is within our reach but we need your help!  With our compassion and generosity, we can help local community charities.  Let’s cover the walls with your personal “Golden Stars” for donating to the charity of your choice.  I would like to thank you in advance for your contributions to this worthy effort!"
