NEW COORDINATOR HAS A CERTAIN QUALITY
A new Quality Coordinator will spur District employees to accomplish even more!
Veretta Norman has always been a quality person and now it’s official: she is the new Quality Coordinator for District 7 as of July 1.
The Quality Coordinator’s job, according to Norman, is to assist the District in “embracing quality in every aspect of our work.” That includes motivating employees to strive for innovation and constant improvement. The coordinator facilitates and acts as a catalyst for this effort in the District, along with representatives from each division. Together, they form the Quality Team, which is responsible for the submission of all award applications.
Those awards include:
Quality Team Awards
Sponsored by the Department, the Quality Team Awards recognize teams that find innovative ways to deliver products and services faster, better, cheaper and safer.
Excellence in Transportation Awards
Considered the "Oscars" of California's transportation industry, this award recognizes quality products produced by Caltrans and only honors the best and brightest accomplishments in the field.
The Tranny Awards are sponsored annually by the California Transportation Foundation (CTF), a non-profit organization dedicated to the recognition of outstanding performance and achievement in transportation.
Outstanding Management in Engineering in Transportation Awards (Annual), consisting of:
• The Charles H. Purcell Award recognizes valued contributions by Caltrans engineering managers to the field of transportation engineering and transportation program management.
• The Karl Moskowitz Award recognizes contributions by Caltrans registered engineers to the field of transportation engineering.
• The Emerson Rhyner Award recognizes contributions to the field of transportation by non-engineering Caltrans managers.
• The James E. Roberts Award recognizes outstanding contributions by Caltrans registered engineers to the field of transportation structures.
Once a year, the Quality Team holds a Quality event to celebrate the District’s accomplishments and to recognize employee achievements both as individuals and as teams.
“It takes innovation and thinking outside the box to discover ways to do things better,” Norman said. “I look forward to this exciting challenge.”
