Purpose

The purpose of the project is to improve safety, operations and local road access to Route 156; to relieve congestion; and to accomodate increases in traffic.

Background

State Route 156 is an east/west route beginning at Route 1 in Castroville in Monterey County and ending at Route 152 near Hollister in San Benito County. Within the project limits, Route 156 is a two-lane conventional highway. It serves inter-regional and recreational traffic between the two counties.
