Inquiry #3: The bridge plans do not provide top of deck grades for the new bridge, please provide at a minimum Top of deck grades at the Bent / column center line @ center of bridge, and / or contour deck grades for the entire structure, this information is required for an accurate quantity take-off, since the structural concrete bid items are final pay items.

Inquiry #9: Section 19-1.01A says earthwork activities include clearing and grubbing. Clearing and grubbing must comply with Section 17. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife permit indicates that there are approximately 140 native riparian trees between 4 to 83 inches in diameter that will be permanently removed. It appears that a significant number of these trees are in the shadow of the new bridge. As there is no section 19 work in this area, where is the cost for clearing to be included? We would request that the owner add a bid item for clearing and grubbing as they have for most projects.

Inquiry #12: We request Caltrans to re-evaluate and give Contractors more time to construct “N1 & N2” line off-ramps work in Stage 3. We think, It’s impossible to move approx. 7,000 cy of Dirt/Ex. Pavement Cut to Fill, making approx. 100k/sf of Subgrade, place and finish approx. 6,000 tons of Rock, Cold plane portion of existing “N2” line prior to overlay, place approx. 4,000 tons of HMA & RHMA, remove K-rail, then open to traffic in 55 hours working closure window.

Inquiry #13: Will the PG&E 60 KV electrical lines, adjacent to the Bent 3 CIDH pile, be de-energized during the installation and construction of the Bent 3 CIDH pile and column?

The PG&E OH lines near Bent 3 will not be de-energized. There are multiple lines along this run; however, the line closest to the column is the OH ground wire (<50 kV per sheet U-1). The other PG&E OH line at Abutment 1 has already been relocated on October 21. Please bid per the current contract documents.

Inquiry #15: We are in agreement with the bidder with regards to Inquiry #12 and the 55 hour work window for lines "N2" & "N3". As the bidder so correctly states, there is way too much work to be performed for such a short period of time.

Inquiry #16: A portion of the "N3" Line constructed in stage 2 is approx. 5 feet higher than the original ramp elevation. Therefore, we think a "Temporary Shoring" must be install between stage 2 and stage 3 in order to retain the fill embankment and new roadway structural section on "N3" Line. Inquiry #22: Items 191, 192, and 193 Traffic Stripe Tape (Warranty) are requiring a manufacturers warranty on the material. At this time we have contacted multiple manufacturers and only 1 is willing to provide this. This is leading to inflated costs for this item beyond normal for overhead and profit. Please allow either standard permanent tape (Non warranty) or replacement of the item with thermoplastic.

Inquiry #27: The quantities and plan details indicate that the existing joint seals are to be extended into the widening. Please clarify the interface of the new and existing seals. "Falsework must be released as soon as permitted by the specifications. Closure pour shall not be placed sooner than 90 days after the falsework has been released."
