Sac 5 Road Rehabiliation Project

DESCRIPTION

This comprehensive corridor project will rehabilitate Interstate 5 (I-5) in Sacramento County from Beach Lake Bridge at Morrison Creek (PM 13.0) to the American River Bridge (PM 24.9). This was a G13 SHOPP Contingency project programmed in the 18/19 Fiscal Year (FY). With the passage of SB1, this project has been accelerated to be delivered in 17/18 FY and go to construction in 2018.

The proposed work includes:

  • Mainline and all ramps/connectors will be rehabilitated with a 40 year service life pavements.
  • Casilada Way Pedestrian Over-Crossing (POC) will be replaced.
  • Pedestrian ramps and sidewalks throughout the corridor will be brought into compliance with current ADA standards.
  • Seven ramps will be widened for installation of ramp meters, maintenance vehicle pullouts, and bus/carpool preferential lanes.
  • Both mainline and ramps will be widened to add the proposed auxiliary/transition lanes between Pocket Road and Florin Road.
  • ITS Elements (in conjunction with Fiber Optic Project 4F450 – CMS, Vehicle Classification, etc.) will be installed.
  • Ancillary facilities to be replaced or upgraded include drainage systems, overhead signs, lighting, pumping plants, approach slabs, guard rail, and safety barriers.

  • PROJECT BENEFITS

The purpose of this roadway rehabilitation project is to extend the service life of the pavement, reduce maintenance expenditures, provide improved traffic operations tools, and improve ride quality for the traveling public. It is also intended to create a recyclable corridor through the use of long life pavement technology.

Roadway rehabilitation is needed because the existing Jointed Portland Cement Pavement (JPCP) pavement and Asphalt Concrete (AC) pavement have deteriorated and have a poor ride quality that requires annual maintenance to repair and maintain.
