U.S. 50 HOV Lane (I-5 to Watt Ave.)


DESCRIPTION

In Sacramento on US 50, from I-5 to 0.8 mile east of Watt Avenue - Construct high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes [PM 0.2/R6.1]

PROJECT BENEFITS

-Allow connectivity and consistency with the planned HOV system in the Sacramento Region
-Enhance mobility and provide incentives for ridesharing during peak period travel
-Achieve the goals of the current SACOG MTP by promoting ridesharing
-Improve US 50 to meet the growing travel demand in the Sacramento Region
-Provide an option for reliable peak period travel time
-Use the highway facilities as efficiently as possible
-Improve general traffic operations by reducing congestion and travel time
-Improve bicycle and pedestrian access

FUNDING (PROGRAMMED)

The project is fully funded as shown below:
  • Sacramento Measure A Transportation Sales Tax Program managed by Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA) for $25.55 million for the preliminary engineering, environmental studies (PA&ED), design, right-of-way work and construction.
  • Solutions for Congested Corridors Program (SCCP) by State of California’s Senate Bill(SB) 1 - Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 for $90 million for construction.

Estimated Total Project Cost - $115 million
NOTE: This cost estimate is with the assumption that this project will be combined with SAC 50 Rehabilitation Project funded by SHOPP.

Right of Way Acquisition Completed -- February 2020
Advertise – March 2020
Begin Construction -- September 2020
